Diversity Dance Foundation, founded in 2017 in the Dominican Republic by Silver Gonzalez, is a community foundation that focuses on promoting the art and to do social activities nationally and internationally to help people with low income through donations of all types such as food, clothes, monetary, school, and medical supply, and so much more. Also, the foundation provides workshops for personal growth as well as artistic classes in the areas of dance, singing, theatrical, communication, fashion, and more to provide a platform for all types of artists in the communities to improve their abilities. “Our heart is with the community,” said the president of board Yohan Matos. Since the organization not only works in the Dominican Republic, last February 22, 2020, it was organized by the diversity board a charity event for the homeless in the city of Paterson, New Jersey. The purpose of this event was to provide homeless people with food and clothes for the winter such as a sweater, hats, gloves, boots, sweatpants, and more. As well, we wanted to spend the time getting to know them, their story, what they need, and how they feel. Overall, we wanted it to offer the homeless our emotional support. During the event, a lot of people came, took breakfasts, we provided them donations, some of the people were very emotional and even cry, we all cried at a certain time, but we also felt the joy to see how thankful they were and to see the smile in their faces. My contribution to this activity was simple but effective. I donated winter clothes and sandwiches. Also, I was in charge of organizing the activities, I promoted in the social media and invited other organizations such as Heavenly Arts Training Center and Painting Smiles foundation which helped us a lot with the activities and donations. This event touched my heart in a very sentimental way, just to have the opportunity to see how blessed I am comparing to other people, make me realize that I am not grateful enough. I put so much attention to material things, but I even was not thankful to have them. Now, seeing how many people are in need of not home, food, even appropriate clothes to wear, I set up new priorities. Now, I try not to waste any food or buy unnecessary clothes or things that I truly do not need. I have made some connections to some charity foundation that works with the homeless to make some donations to them. Also, I am collecting the extra lunch from work, I work in a public school, for every Friday I go with my aunt to certain places around our city and provide the lunch to the homeless. Some other teachers started to follow up on my steps, and now they do the same sometimes. For me to help others is very important and make feel useful and bless. We all have the opportunity to do it. I remember when I was younger, my mother used to take me to do the groceries on the weekends and I always made sure to have some change to give it to homeless outside the supermarket, I felt so much joy in my heart just to know they were able at least to buy a bottle juice with the money I provided to them. Most of the homeless might think that life is not fair, even I think that life is not fair, but I have learned that we need to be grateful for the things that we have.
